Biography
Kate Winslet was born into a thesbian family and made her
first appearance on British television at age seven in a cereal commercial. In 1988, she appeared in the TV series Shrinks; three years later, she left school to pursue her acting career. Her first film role was in Heavenly Creatures (1994), directed by Peter Jackson.

Winslet attracted even more attention with her next role, as the winsome Marianne Dashwood in Ang Lees film adaptation of Sense and Sensibility. A role which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Winslet landed squarely on the A-list of leading ladies with her performance as Rose DeWitt Bukater, the heroine of James Camerons record-breaking blockbuster Titanic.

In 2001, Winslet lent her voice to the animated British feature A Christmas Carol and released the song from the movie, What If, which was a Top Ten single in Britain.

Kate took on the role of former Nazi concentration camp guard who has an affair with a teenager in the film adaption of Bernhard Schlink's 1995 novel The ReaderWhile the film garnered mixed reviews in general,Winslet received favorable reviews for her performance.The following year, she earned her sixth Academy Award nomination and went on to win the Best Actress award, the BAFTA Award for Best Actress, a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress, and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress.
